Arequipa is the capital of the colonial era of the Arequipa region in Peru. It is surrounded by 3 volcanoes and has baroque buildings made of ashlar, a white volcanic stone. The central part of the city is crossed by the Chili River from north to southwest, which forms a valley as it passes, called the Arequipa Valley or the Chili Valley, which is protected to the north and east by the Andean mountain range and towards the south and west by the low chains of hills. From the city a series of volcanic cones that form snow-capped mountains such as Misti, Chachani and Pichu Pichu are observed. The climate is arid temperate, with an average temperature of about 14.5 ° C, annual rainfall of 75-100 mm and classified as BWk.104 The climate of the city is predominantly dry in winter, autumn and spring due to low atmospheric humidity , it is also arid due to the low effective precipitation and tempered by the thermal condition.105 It lacks the rigors of winter and the overwhelming estuaries of the coast, a situation that ensures the presence of a vital sun and a diaphanous sky102 with 300 days of sun per year and a record number of 4,000 hours of sun exposure per year that justify the nickname “City of the eternal blue sky” that it receives.
